Stitching Stuff: Week 36 of 2023 from Life In Pieces

September is already more than half over.  I'm not really ready for that at all.  Even though it's half gone, it's been a good month on the finding time to stitch front, even with a busier than normal week.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Sept = 16/16 days
  • 15 minute days/2023 = 222/259 days
  • Success rate = 85.71%
There was one day this week I just barely got in my time and that was the day I went to the stained glass class with some of my work buddies.  It also ...

Stained Glass & Pets from Thread Head

This week I made a piece of stained glass for over the kitchen sink-

Inspired by pieces on Pinterest (I am trying to use up glass). It is about 6.5"x38".

Pets-
We had another snowstorm this week, Molly was enjoying herself.
She hears voles under the snow.
Maggie keeping an eye out.

Doing her best to avoid puddles.

A Couple of Cooperative Projects from Thread Head

I recently was involved in a couple of cooperative projects-

This is a pair of quilts for my parents.
I cut out the fabric, my Mom sewed them and I quilted them.
The pattern is Twilight Hopscotch by Kim Diehl from her book 'Simple Comforts'. We modified the size to make bed sized quilts (72"x100" - 4x6 block layout with a 6" border). The fabric is from Connecting Threads. We used wool batting. They are free motion quilted with an all over meander (on my domestic sewing machine), and a hooked feather in the outer red border. I quilted them ...

More Weaving, Spinning, and Stained Glass from Thread Head

I finished a couple of weaving projects recently-

This first one is an overshot scarf, the last of my kits from the Yarn Barn.
The pattern is "Latte or Mocha?', made with bamboo. It is the first scarf that I have woven that is nice to wear. It is silky, 'drapey' and so soft. I thought it would be my last handwoven scarf (I find weaving narrow things harder), but I'll probably make some more like this. It looks nice on each side, the sides are opposite.

The last three projects I wove were all overshot - woven with two ...

The Year’s Last Museum Visit from The Snarky Quilter

Go big or go home could be the motto of The Morse Museum in Winter Park, Florida. It boasts “the world’s most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848–1933), including the artist and designer’s jewelry, pottery, paintings, art glass, leaded-glass lamps and windows; his chapel interior from the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago; and art and architectural objects from his Long Island country estate, Laurelton Hall.” Since my husband enjoys all aspects of Tiffany’s comprehensive output, we stopped by the museum on our way to our eventual Florida vacation destination.

There are ...

My turn for...Blog Hop for Scrappy Improv Quilting from Sew Sunshine

Today is the day........My turn on the Scrappy Improv Quilting blog hop for Kelly Young @My Quilt Infatuation. My quilt is the "Improv Chapel Window" quilt. Very stained glass like improv scraps. Kelly used solids in the book for this quilt and I decided to use whatever was in my scrap bin. I made a sunrise rainbow-like style going from light to dark fabrics. I think it has a sunlight feel!

 Measures 22" x 22"

Kelly's book is filled with improv mini quilts with easy to follow instructions. Kelly is a hero of mine when it comes to ...

Playing With Color (More Catching Up!) from The Quilting Hermit

I've made several Mod Mosaic quilts (back between 2010-2012), though I apparently only blogged about one of them as a WIP. Still, it's a super fun block to do with scraps. When my quilt guild put out a call for quilts to auction at the quilt show in February of 2017 I made two mini mosaic quilts. The theme for the show was the color red, so I did both with my red scraps and did one with white spacers and one with black. I backed both with a plain unbleached muslin, nothing special, and bound them in ...
